la resolucion que tenia era de 1024 ahora solo da 800x600 muy poco para disfrutar de compiz esto sucedio despue sde instalar el driver nvidia claro mediante controladores restringidos
debo cambiar algo en el famoso xorg.conf

prueba a editar el "susodicho archivo" xD y donde ponga nVidia (o algo por el estilo) pon nv.

ejecuta en un terminal como root sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg y en una de las pantalla te va a dar la opcion para seleccionar las resoluciones disponibles.
