bien gracias por responder, lo hice pero sigue igual.. pero creo que ya identifique el problema..
cuando estoy instalando el driver de nvidia aparecen dos advertencias:

no recuerdo haberlo instalado de otra forma, revice el /var/log/nvidia-installer.log y aca es donde me da error.
