A continuación pego el intercambio de cartas que tuve con el técnico de linuxant, que me ayudó tremendamente a arreglar la conexión.

Subject: Modem drivers for Mandrake 9.2
Hello..
I'm a new Mandrake user and i'm trying to configure my Zoltrix Spirit
internal 56K Modem. Now, It doesn't work at all.
The modem scanning application says that this modem use the Conexant HCF
56K chipset, but Zoltrix doesn't appear in the list of HCF drivers:
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hcf/index.php
Would you mind showing me the way to get the drivers for Mandrake and
configure this modem?
Thank you.
Best Regards,
Hi,
what is important is the PCI ID of your modem, not the name of the modem
which is Zoltrix Spirit in this case. You can obtain the PCI ID of all the
PCI cards on your system with the 'lspci -n' command in a root shell. You
can have more information about those PCI cards with a 'lspci -v' command
in a root shell.
If you require more assistance, please send us the output of 'dumpdiag'.
Type the following in a root shell:
# hcfpciconfig --dumpdiag
Just send us the generated file located in /tmp ('hcfdiag.txt').
It'll help us solve the problem.
Thanks,

Hello again.
Thanks for your advices, Jonathan.
I've obtained part of the information about my PCI card, typing
'lspci -n' and 'lspci -v' but the # hcfpciconfig --dumpdiag was
not able to run "unknowm".
Anyway, i think we got enough information with the lspci command. I took
this ID's and looked for it in the HCF drivers web page of linuxant.com.
But, again, i don't find my hardware parameters....
**** The following lines are what the 'lspci' command tell ****
#lspci -n
00:0f.0 class 0780 14f1:1035 (rev 8)
#lspci -v
00:0f.0 Comunnication Controler: Conexant HCF 56K data/fax/voicespkp
/w/Handset) modem (rev 08)
Subsystem: Conexant HCF 56K data/fax/voicespkp /w/Handset) modem
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 10
Memory at cffe0000 (32 bit, non prefetchable) [size=64k]
i/o ports at d000 [size=8]
Capability: [40] Power Managment Version 2.
If there is someting else that i can do, just tell me!
Thanks for all your help...
Best Regards,
Hi,
your modem with PCI ID 14f1:1035 is supported by our HCF PCI driver which
you can download at
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hcf/dow ... icense.php
The 'hcfpciconfig --dumpdiag' failed because the HCF PCI driver was not
installed on yor system at the time you ran the command.
Please let us know if you require more assistance.

Subject: Re: Modem drivers for Mandrake 9.2 [eid-20040421-f6f]
Hello again.
Things are getting better, but everything is not running god yet.
I looked for my driver in the URL you gave me the other day.
Everything matches almost perfectly, Kernel version 2.4.22_10, except
this: my computer says i686, not i586.
I've installed the version available from the webpage most similiar to
mine:
hcfpcimodem-1.01lnxt04032800full_k2.4.22_10mdk-1mdk.i586.rpm.zip
And now Mandrake recognizes the device!!.
Now modem seems to be installed and congifured: it hangs up, dials and
hangs down the "phone"....but now the modem doesn't 'comunicate' with my
ISP...
i mean: when i try to connect, modem calls perfectly, the ISP answers
too, but in the middle of this operation, modem hangs down, ignoring the
answering sounds, and stops the communication!!!
Mandrake Setup assistant says: 'Computer looks like to be not connectec
to intenet.' but conections are running perfectly under windows.
By other hand, in the conecction configuration menu, appears these boxes
to fill:
"Authentification:" with this options to choose: PAP, terminal-based,
Script-based, CHAP
And "Domain name" just beside the DNS primary and secundary...
I've never seen these fields in setting up internet connections...i
tried everything filling them, but i got no results. Could be this the
source of the problems???
Thaks for your help again
Hi,
since Mandrake was able to recognize the device, it means tnhat you have
installed the right package for your system. Please make sure that you are
using '/dev/modem' or '/dev/ttySHCF0' as modem device.
You could try to connect with 'kppp' instead as the interface is easier to
use generally. This program can also generate a complete connection log
with an option that you can activate while the modem is dialing. You should
send us this log, it will help us to find the solution to the problem.
You could also try with the 'minicom' program to see if the problem is
related to PPP configuration or IP issues or the modem driver.
Please also send us the output of 'dumpdiag'. Type the following in a
root shell:
# hcfpciconfig --dumpdiag
Just send us the generated file located in /tmp ('hcfdiag.txt').
It'll help us solve the problem.
Thanks,

Subject: Re: Modem drivers for Mandrake 9.2 [eid-20040421-f6f]
Hi.
Thank you for your advices!,
at least i can connect!!!.
Problems and known bugs of Mandrake 9.2 were mixed with the modem
driver ones, so everything was getting very complicated....
But, i made the steps you told me:
- minicom: i wasn't able to manage it....
-# hcfpciconfig --dumpdiag: no problem.... the out file: 'hcfdiag.txt'
you have it attached to this mail...
- kppp, run perfectly, and i was reading the log info. Here is were i
find the problem of my modem. It made all the steps right until the
dialing, and when the dialing finishes, there is an 'answer' from the
remote machine (like two tiny bips) before the typical noise of
connecting to internet. So, the modem understands those two tiny bips as
a 'BUSY' signal, and hangs down the communication before the real
connecting noise arrives to him!.
I tried to make a trick, and it worked: i run the connecting secuence,
and i unplugged the wire from the wall and replugged just the needed
time to avoid those bips to arrive the modem....(i kept the
communication running with another telephone while this operation).
After this, the connection run perfectly!
Thus, i think there's only one more thing to ask you: How can i tell the
modem to ignore those bips or to understand them not as a BUSY
signal??Is it possible?
Well, i will publish this emails in some linux forums, so people could
fix these problems by themselves...
THanks a lot.
If someday you're comming to Cadiz, southern Spain, let me know for
having some beers!
Hi,
we can most of the time fix this kind of problems with the 'NVM' parameters
of the driver. We will require the .INF and the .CTY files used by your
modem Windows driver in order to create the fix.
